Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Georgian Court University scored twice in an eight-minute span midway through the first period and went on to a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Investors Savings Bank Field.
Georgian Court (5-1-1, 5-0-1) is the CACC's first-place team. The Lions have won their last four matches, all by way of the shutout.
On Saturday, GCU junior Taylor Mize (Toms River, N.J.) opened the scoring when she ran onto a pass by classmate Kaitlyn Hartkopf (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and finished at the 22:52 mark.
The Lions struck again in the 31st minute, converting a corner kick by Liz Lawler (Forked River, N.J.). Graduate student Taylor Reinecke (Toms River, N.J.) gained control of the kick and one-timed a ball past Felician goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.).
Fewer than three minutes into the second half, Sheridan stopped a GCU penalty kick attempt, and another Lion shot hit the crossbar four minutes later. But the Golden Falcons were unable to seize the momentum.
Lion sophomore keeper Casey O'Connor (Toms River, N.J.) made four second-half saves en route to a six-save shutout. Felician's Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J.) and Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J.) put shots on frame in the final eight minutes, but O'Connor and the Georgian Court defense were up to the task.
Sheridan also finished with six saves. Farley topped the Felician offense with four shots. GCU held a 13-12 shot advantage for the day, including 7-4 in the opening period.
