Box Score NEWARK, Del. – Wilmington (Del.) University posted a team attack percentage of .389 in its 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-9) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) led Felician with eight kills. Golden Falcon junior outside Emma Reijonen (Joensuu, Finland) put together five kills, 10 digs, and two blocks.
In Set 1, a kill by Reijonen brought Felician (2-7, 2-3 CACC) to within a 9-6 deficit before the Wildcats reeled off the next eight points. A kill by Golden Falcon senior Alexa Srivanich (Paramus, N.J.) temporarily stopped the onrush, but Wilmington posted five more points in a row to lead, 22-7.
Set 2 featured 13 ties and eight lead changes. A kill by Felician junior middle Tonia Ford (Bayonne, N.J.) knotted things at 21-21 and put the visitors within range of evening the match. However, Wilmington sophomore Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Glen Burnie, Md.) answered with a kill, then served for the final three points as the Wildcats emerged with a 25-21 set victory.
The Wildcats (9-7, 4-0) never trailed in Set 3, hitting .667 to close out the match. Wilmington led, 13-4, en route to the 25-9 final. Senior middle Katie Shorter (Pasadena, Md.) was one of three players to accumulate nine kills for the balanced Wilmington offense, hitting .750 for the afternoon.
Wilmington sophomore Alex Siolos (East Moriches, N.Y.) stuffed the boxscore with nine kills, 10 assists, two aces, and two blocks while hitting .500. Teammate Allison Briley (Monroeville, Pa.) hit .471 with nine kills. Felician sophomore libero Patrycja Giemza (Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland) topped all players in the match with 13 digs.
