TOWNSEND, Del. – Felician College sophomore Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) finished in 13th place out of 55 entrants to highlight the Golden Falcons' visit to the Goldey-Beacom College Fall Men's Golf Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Odessa National Country Club.
Felician posted a team score of 353 on Sunday and sat in 10th place after Round 1. The Golden Falcons improved to 322 on Monday, but could only climb into a tie for ninth in the 10-school tournament. Neumann University also finished with a two-day total of 675, with both schools 30 shots behind eighth-place University of the Sciences. A team starts five players, with its top four scores each day constituting its team total.
Geesey was the only Felician player to break 80 for the weekend. He completed the par-72, 6,412-yard course in 78 strokes on Sunday, then fired a 75 on Day 2 for a tournament total of nine-over-par 153. After shooting a 95 in his collegiate debut last weekend, true freshman Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) improved to 83-82-165 and placed 37th.
All five Golden Falcon starters improved their scores from Sunday to Monday. Junior Jordan Tackett (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) was 44th with 90-84-174. He was followed by senior Chris Zito (South Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) (49th, 98-85-183), and sophomore Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) (51st, 103-88-191).
St. Thomas Aquinas College easily won the championship with 299-298-597, ending up 16 shots ahead of runner-up Concordia (N.Y.) College. Concordia's Sam Deitte won a playoff over STAC's Brendan Hunter for medalist honors after both players completed 36 holes in 145.
The Golden Falcons next participate in the Charger Challenge, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College on Oct. 6-7 in Suffern, N.Y.
