Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Senior outside hitter Emma Reijonen (Joensuu, Finland) hit .395 and put down a career-high 17 kills to lead Felician College to a 3-1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-15, 25-18) non-conference women's volleyball victory over host Lincoln (Pa.) University on Wednesday night at Rivero Hall. Felician (4-5) has won four of its last five matches.
The victory gives the Golden Falcons more than one non-conference win in a season for the first time in the 11-year history of the program. Felician defeated Bowie State at home in three sets on Sept. 20.
On Wednesday, Reijonen was supported on offense by senior middle Tonia Ford (Bayonne, N.J.) and freshman outside Sally Taylor (San Diego, Calif.). Ford finished with 13 kills, while Taylor matched a season high with 12 kills and established another with 15 digs for her third "double-double" of the year.
Felician led, 19-12, in Set 1 before seeing Lincoln (2-10) tie it up at 20-20. The Golden Falcons then came back to score the next five points to win the set, including a pair of kills from Ford.
In Set 2, Felician played its longest set of the season, but came up short when the Lions saved a set point en route to tallying the final three points. The Golden Falcons then rebounded from a 6-1 third-set deficit, and scored 10 of the match's last 12 points after trailing Set 4, 16-15. Felician combined to hold Lincoln to a negative attack percentage for the final two sets.
Lincoln sophomore libero Kyra Orton (Detroit, Mich.) topped all players on the night with 29 digs. Junior Sydney Cook (Portland, Ore.) had 15 assists and 23 digs, and freshman Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, Md.) led the Lion offense with 16 kills and added 12 digs.
Felician junior setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.) amassed a career-high 47 assists and eight digs. Junior Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.), making her first 2014 start at libero, came one short of her career best with 24 digs, and classmate Paty Giemza (Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland) accumulated a personal-best five kills, 21 digs and two aces.
Felician returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action by hosting Nyack College on Friday at 7 p.m. in its annual "Dig Pink" anti-breast cancer fundraiser. The Golden Falcons then travel to Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon.
