Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Junior forward Macki Groves (Millville, N.J./Millville) scored four goals in the first 24 minutes of Felician College's 5-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Bloomfield College on Tuesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. With the victory combined with other league results, Felician (8-3-3, 6-2-2) earned a spot in the 2014 CACC playoffs.
At the 34:46 mark, the match was delayed two hours, three minutes, by lightning and heavy rain. The game was halted for good after 70 minutes due to the threat of further inclement weather.
Groves put the Golden Falcons on the scoreboard just one minute, 52 seconds, into the action. Junior midfielder Marissa Nieves (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) dribbled down the right side and crossed a ball into the 18-yard box which Groves was able to volley into the net.
Groves' next three goals came in a span of fewer than nine minutes. At 15:01, she pounced on a ball in the offensive third that deflected off of a Bloomfield defender, and finished. She completed the hat trick at 20:40 when she knocked home a Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) corner kick. With 23:42 gone by, freshman Katina Kozlowski (Milton, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) played a ball in the box that freed Groves for another open shot.
Farley completed the scoring at the 25:51 mark when she bent a corner kick off of Bear goalkeeper Diana Vincentini's (Lacey, N.J./Lacey Township) outstretched fingertips and into the net.
Felician finished the night with advantages of 18-2 in shots and 10-1 in corners. Golden Falcon goalkeepers Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) and Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) combined on the shutout, but neither had to make a save. Vincentini stopped six shots for the Bears (1-14, 1-9).
Groves is the third player in the 17-year history of the Felician program to score four or more goals in a game. Alysia Arcona tallied four against Concordia (N.Y.) College in 2012, while Sandi King holds the record of five, set in 1998 against Pratt Institute.
Felician's first-round CACC Tournament game will be held on Monday, November 3, with site, opponent and time yet to be determined.
Felician was playing its final regular-season home game of 2014. Felician president Dr. Anne M. Prisco joined in honoring two departing juniors – Erica Evans (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) and Groves – and five seniors – Christie Calandrillo (Lincoln Park, N.J./Morris Catholic); Farley, Kirsten Mortelliti (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton), Samantha Petosa (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood), and Kristen Toropiw (Hopatcong, N.J./Hopatcong) – in pre-game Senior Night ceremonies
