Caldwell Women Edge Felician, 1-0, To End Regular Season

Box Score

CALDWELL, N.J. – A goal with 13 minutes, four seconds, left in regulation time lifted Caldwell University to a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The matched marked the end of the 2014 regular season for both schools.

The victory allowed Caldwell (9-6-2, 8-3-1 CACC) to move past Felician and into fourth place in the final CACC standings, earning the Cougars a first-round home game in next week's league playoffs. The Golden Falcons settle for the No. 5 seed, meaning that Felician and Caldwell will meet again in Caldwell on Nov. 3, at a time to be announced, in tournament action.

Wednesday's setback snapped Felician streaks of five consecutive wins and six matches without a loss.

The Golden Falcons (10-4-3, 7-3-2) put all five of their shots on target in the first half, but Caldwell senior goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Sewell, N.J.) saved all five. Perhaps the best scoring opportunity for Felician came in the 75th minute, when a Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J.) corner kick found the head of sophomore striker Stephanie Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J.). The play had Franchi beaten, but Hesse's header had too much impetus and traveled over the crossbar.

The Cougars capitalized fewer than two minutes later. Jessica Garretson (Atco, N.J.) sent a cross from the left side to a wide open Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, N.J.) who finished from fewer than 10 yards away. Felician was unable to get a shot off in the final 13 minutes.

Caldwell negated disadvantages of 9-6 in shots and 3-0 in corner kicks. Franchi completed the day with six saves, while junior Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) stopped one shot for Felician.
