Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Dominican (N.Y.) College used a solid two-way effort to defeat host Felician College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action on Friday night at Job Gymnasium.
Dominican (14-7, 10-6 CACC) hit .306 for the night while out-blocking Felician, 9-5. Senior middle Kayla Dexter (Selah, Wash./Selah) led the Chargers on both sides of the ball, posting a .667 attack percentage while amassing 11 kills and six blocks. Freshman outside Sally Taylor (San Diego, Calif./SDCE) put up team highs of nine kills and 10 digs for Felician (5-17, 3-14).
The Chargers got off to a solid start, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the opening set. Sophomore Kera Dexter (Selah, Wash./Selah) had a kill, an assists and two aces during the run. Felician pulled as close as 9-5 before Dominican rattled off six of the next seven points and pulled away.
The Golden Falcons were ahead, 8-3, in Set 2, only to see Dominican get even by tallying the next five points. Felician recovered to move back in front, 13-9, but the Chargers then put up six consecutive points to take the lead for good. With the set tied, 15-15, another 6-0 Charger run allowed the visitors to eventually claim the set and a 2-0 edge in the match.
The third set was tight in the early going. After a kill by Felician's Emma Reijonen (Joensuu, Finland/Lyseo Joensuun) left Dominican ahead 16-15, the Chargers rallied for the next four scores and finished out the match.
CACC kills leader McKenzie John (Lafayette, La./Lafayette) hit .391 and put down 11 balls for Dominican. Kera Dexter totaled eight kills, 12 assists, three aces and three blocks.
Senior Tonia Ford (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) accumulated seven kills and four digs and junior Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./North Fort Myers) added 19 assists and six digs for the Golden Falcons, who conclude their 2014 home schedule with a 1 p.m. match against the University of the Sciences on Saturday.
