Women's Soccer Win Streak Snapped At Three

Box Score

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Post University struck for two second-half goals to earn a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over host Felician College on Tuesday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Post, the CACC's first-place team, ended Felician's three-game winning streak while winning its third in a row.

The Eagles (8-2, 7-1) turned in a strong defensive effort. In the first half, Post out-shot the Golden Falcons, 7-0, with most Felician forays into the opposing 18-yard box being broken up before serious opportunities could be generated. The hosts tried to turn the tide early in period two, getting off two shots and having another chance called for offside.

The Eagles, however, regained the momentum, and nearly dented the scoreboard. A mishit on an open chance and a volleyball over the crossbar on another were the only factors that kept the game scoreless.

Post finally broke through with 25:45 left in regulation. Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) sent a low shot from deep on the right flank toward the center of the box. Felician junior goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) made the save, but was unable to hold on to the ball. The rebound kicked to Eagle freshman Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany/BBS Buxtehude) who only needed to tap the ball in.

Felician (5-3-2, 4-2-1) was never able to test the Eagles' tandem of goalkeepers. The only one of its eight second-half shots that was put on goal, a Kristen Toropiw (Hopatcong, N.J./Hopatcong) attempt from in close following a Golden Falcon corner kick, was cleared off the goal line by a Post defender. The Eagle defense blocked three other Felician shots. Dunster scored on an 82nd minute counterattack to provide the final margin.

The Eagles ended the night with a 13-8 shot advantage. Sheridan finished with six saves.
