BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – Playing amidst the largest field that the Felician College men's golf team will see this season, Felician sophomore Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) tied for 23rd place out of 75 entrants at the Mike Bello Invitational, hosted by Le Moyne College on Sunday and Monday at Timber Banks Golf Course.
The Golden Falcons settled for a 12th place result out of 14 schools. They were in 12th after the first day of competition with a team score of 350, and stayed put with their 345 on Monday. Felician was 14 shots behind the 11th-place College of Saint Rose, and finished nine ahead of Keystone College in 13th.
On the par-72, 6,780-yard course, Geesey opened the tournament with a round of 82, which left him a tie for 30th. He rebounded for a 77 on Monday, matching the 14th-best round that day, and carded a 15-over-par 159.
Geesey was the only Golden Falcon in the top half of the field. Freshman Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) was Felician's No. 2 man, posting 86-84-170 and tying for 52nd place.
Also in the Golden Falcon line-up were sophomore Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) (65th, 93-89-182), and seniors Chris Zito (South Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) (T-67th, 89-95-184) and Tim Gonzalez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (74th, 128-123-251).
The host Dolphins won the tournament. Their +28 total of 305-299-604 was three strokes better than runner-up Roberts Wesleyan College. Shane Dobesh of Roberts Wesleyan was the medalist, turning in a 72-71-143 (-1).
Felician has added an 18-hole tri-match at Philadelphia University with Baptist Bible college on Monday, April 28, at noon to conclude its 2013-14 season.
