SHOREHAM, N.Y. – The Felician College men's golf team took two wildly different paths to produce similar daily scores at the Dowling College September Shootout, hosted by the Golden Lions on Sunday and Monday at Tall Grass Golf Club. Felician finished 11th out of 12 teams in the event by totaling 651 strokes, 324 on Sunday and 327 on Monday.
Junior Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area), the No. 1 player in the Golden Falcon line-up, led the way in Day 1 of the event, carding a four-over-par 75. Freshman Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) had a break-out round of 78, and sophomore Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) turned in an 83. Junior Kevin Berdnik (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) rounded out the team scoring with an 88.
But several players reversed course in Monday's round. Rasmus posted a 77 on the 6,587-yard course, and Bekefi was once again Felician's second-leading scorer with an 82. Geesey struggled to an 84, and Berdnik improved three shots to an 85.
Rasmus and Geesey met at 159, both tying for 40th place out of 60 entrants. Bekefi's total of 160 tied three other golfers for 44th, and Berdink was 56th with 173. Felician's No. 5 man, freshman Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills), shot 89-96-185 and finished 59th.
Felician finished eight strokes behind host and 10th-place Dowling, and was 19 better than Dominican (N.Y.) College in 12th.
Le Moyne College won the tournament, shooting 293-295-588 (+11). Nyack College's Matthew Yun took medalist honors in a playoff, after he and Petter Lehmann of Dowling both posted a -1 two-day total of 141.
