Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Wilmington (Del.) University used a balanced and efficient offense to earn a come-from-behind 3-1 (17-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-17) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.
Felician (3-5, 2-3 CACC) saw its school-record three-match winning streak come to an end, while losing at home for the first time this season. The Golden Falcons also extended their program-record set winning streak to eight before dropping Set 2.
Junior middle Kayla Gallagher (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush) hit .462 and posted a match-high 15 kills and three blocks for Felician. Golden Falcon freshman Sally Taylor (San Diego, Calif./SDCE) amassed 11 kills and 15 digs.
After winning the first set, Felician fell to early deficits for the rest of the match. Wilmington (6-10, 3-1) led, 9-2 and 20-9 in cruising to the second-set triumph.
The Golden Falcons were behind, 9-3, in the third set, but this time, mounted a comeback. The hosts pulled to within 12-11, but never led. Down 19-18, Felician surrendered the next three points, the small opening that the Wildcats needed to secure the set. Consecutive kills by Gallagher made the score 24-23 in favor of Wilmington, but Wildcat junior Alex Siolos (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) then came up with a kill to end the set.
Wilmington extended a 9-8 edge in Set 4 to 14-9. Still ahead, 21-16, the Wildcats ran off four straight points, and following a Felician side-out, Wilmington junior outside Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) put down a kill to end the match.
DiGiacinto hit .324 on the day and finished with 14 kills, 21 digs and three aces. Sophomore Alison Briley (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) had 12 kills for Wilmington, and Siolos recorded her fifth triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 19 assists and 14 digs. The Wildcats hit .255 for the match and served up 11 aces.
The Golden Falcons received 38 assists and 14 digs from junior setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./North Fort Myers). Felician freshman opposite Kristen Keller (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) totaled nine kills.
