Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. – Felician College jumped out to a 1-0 lead before falling, 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-11) to host Queens (N.Y.) College in non-conference women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Queens Auxiliary Gymnasium. The match marked Felicain's 2014 season opener.
Felician junior co-captain and libero Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.) led all players with 22 digs, matching her career high. Golden Falcon freshman Sally Taylor (San Diego, Calif.) gave a solid two-way effort with seven kills and 10 digs in her collegiate debut, and classmate Amanda Zielinski (Belleville, N.J.) put down five kills and four blocks.
Felician jumped out to the early lead by tallying the final eight points of Set 1. After a Queens service error left the Knights ahead, 19-18, Golden Falcon junior co-captain and setter Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.) served out the set, recording two aces during the final run. Felician freshman opposite Kristen Keller (Reading, Pa.) had two kills during the spurt.
Queens, however, held the Golden Falcons to a negative attack percentage for the final three sets, and a .008 figure for the match. The Knights outscored their guests, 6-1, to end the second set, then opened up a 15-9 Set 3 lead en route to moving ahead in the match. Queens ended thoughts of a Felician comeback early in Set 4, opening up advantages of 10-4 and 21-7 before closing out the victory.
Sophomore middle Tori Bowser (Pelham, N.Y.) topped Queens (2-0) with 10 kills and three blocks, hitting .562 for the afternoon. The Knights received nine kills from senior Francesca Indoni (Rome, Italy), who hit .280, and eight kills and 14 digs from junior Angela Kranz.
Shebel finished with 19 assists, eight digs and three aces for Felician, which travels to Mercy College on Tuesday night.
