Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Felician College women's volleyball staved off elimination for one set before bowing, 3-1 (25-18, 25-13, 22-25, 25-22), to host Mercy College in non-conference action Tuesday night on the Mercy campus.
Felician (0-2) had trouble containing Maverick senior outside Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev.), who hit .326 and registered 22 kills, 14 digs and four service aces, all match highs. In the process, White became the career kills leader at Mercy with 1,661.
Freshman outside Kristen Keller (Reading, Pa.) topped the Golden Falcons with nine kills, 11 digs, and three aces while hiting .222.
Mercy (1-3) turned an 8-8 first-set tie into a 21-11 lead. Felician fought back to earn seven of the next 10 points, saving two set points, before the Mavericks earned a 25-18 win. White put down eight kills in the opening set. Mercy hit .304 in Set 2, opening a 19-8 lead before going on to the two sets to none edge.
The Golden Falcons extended the match by rallying from a 20-17 deficit to take Set 3. Keller had two kills and junior Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.) back-to-back aces among Felician's final five points. The visitors fell behind 15-9 in Set 4 before attempting another comeback. Trailing 22-14, Felician pulled to within 24-22, brushing off three match points, before a kill by Maverick senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz.) gave the hosts the four-set triumph.
Shebel finished with 24 assists and four aces for Felician, and teammate Sally Taylor (San Diego, Calif.) added six kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Ronan set 36 assists and added five kills and six digs for Mercy.
Felician opens Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday night at Caldwell College.
