Golfers Grind Out Ninth Place At Griffin Invite

AVONDALE, Pa. – The Felician College men's golf team managed a ninth-place finish out of 14 schools at the Griffin Invitational, hosted by Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday afternoon at Inninscronne Golf Club.

The course played more difficult than its par of 70 and yardage of 6,561 would have indicated. Felician defeated five schools despite matching its worst 18-hole team score of the season. The Golden Falcons placed fifth our of seven Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members in attendance.

The Golden Falcons' four scorers completed their round within one shot of each other. Sophomore Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and junior Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) each shot 85 and tied for 32nd place in the 66-player field. Carding an 86 and tying for 37th were sophomore Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and freshman Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport).

Felician's No. 5 man was junior Tommy Giunta (Jackson, N.J./Marlboro), who was making his collegiate debut. Giunta shot 104 and tied for 64th place.

Tournament host Chestnut Hill easily won the event. Its 18-over-par 298 was 16 strokes better than its nearest competitor. Griffin senior Matthew Balcer and CHC sophomore Sam Reimer tied for medalist honors, both firing an even-par 70.
