Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Sophomore middle blocker Shannon Hood (East Orange, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) hit .611, four points shy of a Felician College record for a player with at least 12 kills, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College, 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22), in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action on Thursday night at Job Gymnasium.
Hood made 18 attack attempts on the night. She put down kills on 12 of them, while committing only one error. She also had two blocks. The Felician record for hitting percentage in a match is .615 (17-1-26) by Keisha Milstrey on Oct.11, 2007.
Freshman outside hitter Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) led the Golden Falcons (4-17, 2-8 CACC) with 15 kills. Concordia sophomore outside Sydney Darden (Marietta, Ga./Allen C. Pope), the CACC's leader in kills per set, topped all players with 21 kills on the night.
The match's opening set was tied on nine occasions, the last time at 19-19 before the Clippers rattled off three consecutive points. Felician pulled to within 22-21 before being whistled for a ball-handling error, and kills by Victoria Carpenter (Las Vegas, Nev./Indian Springs) and Lauren Peters (Monterey Park, Calif./San Gabriel Mission) gave the set to the visitors.
Concordia held the Golden Falcons to a negative attack percentage in Set 2. Felician did the same to the Clippers, however, to win Set 3 and extend the match. The Golden Falcons recovered from early deficits of 13-9, 16-13, and 20-18 in Set 4 to move ahead, 22-21. Concordia then wrapped up the match by claiming the next four points, capped by a service ace from sophomore libero Celine Arada (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep).
Sophomore outside Michelle Klimas (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) registered 10 kills for the Clippers. Felician senior setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./North Fort Myers) had 33 assist and eight digs, and senior libero Pati Giemza (Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland/SMS Beach Volleyball) paced the Golden Falcon defense with 13 digs.
Felician hosts a tri-match on Saturday with Georgian Court University and Southern Connecticut State University beginning at 1 p.m.
