Box Score SHIRLEY, N.Y. – After playing 11 consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches, the Felician College women's soccer team stepped out of league play on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 4-1 non-conference loss to host Dowling College at Golden Lions Field.
Trailing 1-0, Felician (6-8) tied the game with exactly three minutes left to play in the first half on Amanda Nowak's (Lyndhurst, N.J.) sixth goal of the season. Fellow sophomore Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J.) got a through-ball ahead to Nowak, freeing her in the middle of the 18-yard box for a shot to the left side.
The second half, however, was statistically dominated by Dowling, and that advantage would eventually manifest itself on the scoreboard. The Golden Lions obtained the tiebreaking goal in the 56th minute, when Taylor Davide (West Babylon, N.Y.) rolled a ball off the fingertips of Felician junior goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J.) and into the goal's lower right corner.
Ademi kept the visitors in the game with seven second-half saves, but Dowling eventually took full control with two goals in a 35-second span. Allie Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) got her second of the game with 7:10 to play, and Amber Pindulic (Centereach, N.Y.) completed the match's score with 6:35 showing on the clock. Both goals were assisted by Christina Cottone (Levittown, N.Y.)
The Golden Lions out-shot Felician 16-2 in the second half and 24-10 for the contest. Merrill topped all players with six shot attempts. The hosts also had three corner kicks in the final 45 minutes to none for the Golden Falcons (5-2 Dowling for the match). Ademi finished with a career-high nine saves, while Golden Lion senior keeper Mariah Valva (Bayport, N.Y.) earned the victory with three saves.
