Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. – Felician College junior midfielder Azra Buljko (Hackettstown, N.J.) recorded a goal and an assist, but the Golden Falcons were defeated, 3-2, by host St. Thomas Aquinas College in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Spartan field.
St. Thomas Aquinas (4-10) scored on the first shot attempt of the game for either team. In the 14th minute, junior Annalise Warren (Scarsdale, N.Y.) send a cross from the right side that traveled almost completely across the 18-yard box. Teammate Lindsey Sansone (Dumont, N.J.) was there to finish. STAC carried the 1-0 lead into halftime, owning a 7-2 shot advantage.
Felician continued to look for opportunities early in the second half when a Spartan defender was whistled for a handball inside the penalty area. Buljko convered the ensuing penalty kick to knot the score. But just as it looked like the Golden Falcons were beginning to create some chances, STAC sophomore midfielder Alyssa Rosania (Butler, N.J.) struck a ball from a difficult angle nearly 30 yards away from the goal that nestled into the top right corner of the goal. Exactly 21 minutes remained in regulation time.
The hosts picked up an important insurance goal with 8:46 to play when Sansone stole a ball from a Felician defender in the Spartans' offensive third and got a low shot past Golden Falcon junior goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J.). The Golden Falcons pulled to within 3-2 when Buljko set up Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J.) for her team-high seventh of the season and 3:35 on the clock. But Felician only got one shot off for the balance of regulation, which Marissa Nieves (Brick, N.J.) drove over the crossbar.
STAC finished the match with a 15-9 shot advantage, led by four off the bench from Rosania. Ademi was credited with five saves.
