Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Bloomfield College rode the momentum of a strong first set to earn a 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-22) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Felician College on Thursday night at Job Gymnasium. Bloomfield (18-4, 11-3 CACC) has won its last four matches.
Junior outside hitter Lanyse Castro (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) led Felician (5-21, 3-11) with six kills. Bloomfield junior outside Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Bautista de Puerto Nuevo) topped all players with 14 kills and added 10 digs.
The Bears forced 12 Felician attack errors in the opening set while opening up leads of 6-1, 14-2, and 21-3. The Golden Falcons almost flipped the script in Set 2, getting out to a 13-6 advantage. But Bloomfield came all the way back, putting together runs of seven and then eight points to move ahead, 23-17.
After trailing, 13-8, in Set 3 as it attempted to extend the match, Felician pulled to within 16-15. But a Golden Falcon error followed by two kills from Bermudez gave the visitors enough of an opening to remain in the lead as the teams traded side-outs for 12 consecutive rallies. Felician held off two match points before Bermudez ended the contest with a kill.
Felician senior setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./North Fort Myers) recorded team highs of 13 kills, 14 digs and three aces. Junior libero Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) finished with 10 digs and four assists for the hosts.
Bloomfield's Nayade Paulino (Paterson, N.J./PCTI) hit .400 with seven kills and four blocks. Teammate Alex Glasper (Hainesport, N.J./Rancocas Valley) hit .600 with six kills and five blocks.
