Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Felician College freshman midfielder Giana DiTonto (Lyndhurst, N.J.) scored her first collegiate goal, but the Golden Falcons were defeated, 3-1, by host Georgian Court University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer action on a raw, rainy Saturday morning at the GCU Track & Field Complex. All of the match's scoring came in the second half.
Felician saw a three-game winning streak come to an end. Georgian Court (8-1-1, 6-0 CACC) extended its unbeaten streak to nine games, and took over first place in the CACC.
Attacking with the wind in the first half, Felician (4-4, 4-2) failed to take advantage of a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Golden Falcons were able to convert the opportunities into only five shot attempts, just one of which was on frame. Meanwhile, Felician senior goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) made three saves in the scoreless opening period.
Just five minutes, 36 seconds, into the second half, the hosts dented the scoreboard on a Tori Capestro (Brick, N.J.) shot from the middle of the 18-yard box. It took Felician fewer than five minutes to answer, with DiTonto knocking in a loose ball in the 55th.
The match remained knotted 1-1 until the game clock wound under the 11-minute mark. GCU sophomore Lizzy Kroon (Bayville, N.J.) pounced on a ball after a shot was blocked by the Felician defense and pushed it ahead to teammate Tayler Bramley (Sparta, N.J.), who one-touched it into the net with 10:58 to play. With 8:50 left, the Lions put the game away on an unassisted score by Morgan Peacock (Edison, N.J.).
Kroon finished with two assists for Georgian Court, which gained shot advantages of 14-5 in the second half and 18-10 for the day. Lion senior Rachel Marino (Brick, N.J.) took a game-high six shots. GCU keeper Casey O'Connor (Toms River, N.J.) finished with three saves, while Sheridan was credited with nine.
