AVONDALE, Pa. – Felician College junior Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) tied for 11th place in the Griffin Invitational men's golf tournament, hosted by Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday at Inniscrone Golf Club. The event contained 16 teams and 83 golfers, both the most the Golden Falcons have competed against this season.
On the par-70, 6,561-yard course, Geesey posted a round of 77. It was the seventh time he has broken 80 in 12 rounds in 2014-15. Geesey led Felician to a tie for ninth place in the team standings. With a total score of 338, the Golden Falcons defeated two fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members, Dominican (N.Y.) College (11th, 340) and the University of the Sciences (16th, 390), and tied another, Philadelphia University.
Geesey was one of only 20 players to shoot in the 70s on the day. No player shot or broke par. Jim Maru of runner-up Moravian College was the medalist with a 71.
Geesey was the only Felician player to finish in the top half of the field. Sophomore Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) and freshman Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) were part of a 49th place tie, each carding an 86. Golden Falcon freshman Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) shot 89 and tied for 60th.
Wilmington (Del.) University easily won the tournament by shooting 297, 18 strokes better than Moravian. The Wildcats put all five starters and one individual player among the top 10 finishers. Just four strokes separated second place from fifth.
