HILO, Hawaii – California State University-Los Angeles posted a team attack percentage of .371 en route to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-10) non-conference women's volleyball victory over Felician College on Thursday at Vulcans Gymnasium. The match began play in the three-day, four-team Hilo Naniloa Hawaii Challenge, hosted by the University of Hawaii Hilo.

Cal State-L.A. received votes in the most recent national NCAA Division II coaches' poll.

Felician (1-4) jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the opening set, only to see the Golden Eagles tally 13 of the next 14 points. Only a kill by Lanyse Castro (Elizabeth, N.J) broke up the string, during which the Golden Falcons used both of their timeouts. Felician got back to with 21-17 before Cal State-L.A. scored the set's final four points.

Set 2 was tied four times in the early-going, the last time at 8-8 before the Golden Eagles (5-0) slowly pulled away. Cal State-L.A. stretched a 10-9 lead to 18-11 before three consecutive points by Felician made it 18-14. But that was as close as the Golden Falcons came for the balance of the set.

The Golden Eagles hit .538 and went 10 for 10 on side-out opportunities to easily claim Set 3 and take the match. Cal State-L.A. held an 8-1 blocking advantage and limited Felician to an .036 attack percentage for the match.

Freshman middle Carmen Shaw (Gardnerville, Nev.) led Felician with eight kills and classmate Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) turned in five kills and six digs. Senior libero Pati Giemza (Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland) paced the Golden Falcon defense with eight digs.

Golden Eagle senior Iona Lofrano (Meadow Vista, Calif.) topped all players with 14 kills and four blocks.

Felician continues play in the Hawaii Challenge with two matches on Friday.
