Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HILO, Hawaii – The Felician College women's volleyball team was defeated by a pair of schools from the host state during Day 2 of the four-team, three-day Hilo Naniloa Hawaii Challenge, hosted by the University of Hawaii Hilo at Vulcans Gymnasium, on Friday. The Golden Falcons suffered a three-set setback to Chaminade University of Honolulu (25-10, 25-14, 25-12) in its morning match before returning on Friday night and going down to the same fate, 25-6, 25-8, 25-16, to the host Vulcans.

Chaminade (6-0) received votes in the most recent national NCAA Division II coaches' poll.

The Silverswords never trailed on Friday morning. Chaminade jumped out to leads of 5-0 and 17-4 in Set 1. Felician recovered from an early 5-1 Set 2 deficit to pull within 10-9 on a Shannon Hood (East Orange, N.J.) kill. The score was 13-12 in favor of Chaminade when the Silverswords finished the set with 12 of the final 14 points. Chaminade moved ahead, 14-6, in the third set and went on to clinch the match.

Chaminade hit .411 for the day while holding the Golden Falcons to a .012 attack percentage. Silversword senior opposite Keani Passi (Pearl City, Hawaii) hit .647 and led all players with 11 kills and four blocks. Hood finished with five kills for Felician and senior setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.) turned in 12 assists and eight digs.

Freshman middle Carmen Shaw (Gardnerville, Nev.) posted a team-high six kills as Felician fell to UHH in a match which finished after 2 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Classmate Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) turned in five kills and seven digs and junior Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J.) led the Golden Falcons with eight digs from her libero position.

The Vulcans hit .382 for the match and produced 10 service aces. UHH junior outside Kyndra Trevino-Scott (Sacramento, Calif.) hit .714 with 10 kills, and classmate Morgan Lees (Newcastle, Calif.) hit .643 with nine kills and six aces.

With Lees serving, the Vulcans scored 15 consecutive Set 1 points, extending a one-point lead to 19-3. A similar spurt on the serve of Lauren Spreen (St. Louis, Mo.) helped turn a 7-6 edge to 18-6 in Set 2. UHH jumped ahead 10-4 and 16-9 in the third set and stopped any Felician comeback hopes.

Felician concludes play in the Hawaii Challenge by visiting the Vulcans again on Saturday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
