BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – Felician College senior Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) and junior Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) finished among the top quarter of one of the largest fields the Golden Falcons will see all season, the 16-team Le Moyne University Fall Preview held Friday and Saturday at Timber Banks Golf Club. It was Felician's first meet of the 2015-16 season.
Felician posted a team score of 342 on Friday, after which it sat in a tie for 10th place. But despite dropping 13 strokes on Saturday, the Golden Falcons fell to 14th. All but one team in the tournament posted a better score on Day 2 despite steady rain in greater Syracuse.
The par-72 course made the players cover 6,739 yards. Geesey shot 79 on Friday and 81 on Saturday for a 16-over-par total of 160. He tied for 15th place out of 92 entrants. Rasmus recovered from his 83 on Day to fire a Day 2 79, tying for 21st place with his 162.
Sophomore Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) improved nine shots over the weekend, tying for 54th with his 89-80-169, and classmate Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) improved eight (T-87th, 97-89-186). Freshman Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) (T-87th, 91-95-186) was the No. 5 man in the line-up, making his collegiate debut.
Felician's two-day total of 671 strokes was just 10 back of eighth place, and only two behind the College of Saint Rose in 13th. The Golden Falcons finished four shots ahead of 15th-place Daemen College.
The host Dolphins made up eight strokes on Saturday to come from behind and tie Southern New Hampshire University for the team championship, both with a 50-over-par 626. There was also a tie for medalist honors, as Blaze Hogan of Mercyhurst University and Jose Luis Martinez of Post University were unable to contest a playoff due to the weather after both players shot 76-73-149.
In a college golf tournament, each team is allowed to enter five players, and the top four scores of the day constitute its team score.
