Women's Soccer Bests Bloomfield In CACC Opener

Box Score

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Felician College scored three goals in a 12-minute stretch spanning halftime and went on to earn a 4-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over host Bloomfield College on Tuesday night at Foley Field. Felician was playing its first CACC match of the 2015 season.

The Golden Falcons (1-2, 1-0 CACC) got off to a strong start offensively, generating two corner kick opportunities and five shots attempts in the first 15 minutes of action. Bloomfield was able to survive the Felician attack, and somewhat equalized the play in the middle stages of the period.

But as the half wore on, the chances once again began to favor the visitors. Felician cashed in with four minutes, 15 seconds left before halftime. A well placed corner by freshman Giana DiTonto (Lyndhurst, N.J.) found the foot of junior Mikaylah Davies (Pompton Lakes, N.J.), who volleyed the ball into the net. It was the Golden Falcons' first goal of the season, and the first collegiate point for DiTonto.

The Golden Falcons assumed full control early in period two with a pair of unassisted tallies. Fewer than six minutes into the half, sophomore Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J.) received a ball near midfield and sped past multiple defenders to create a breakaway opportunity, which she finished. Seventy-five seconds later, senior Marissa Nieves (Brick, N.J.) was the first player to a loose ball near the top of the 18-yard box and put a shot into the net.

Another corner kick hook-up completed the scoring. In the 64th minute, junior Stephanie Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J.) knocked home a Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J.) offering.

Felician finished with advantages of 20-10 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks. Nowak and Stoll topped the Golden Falcons with four shots each. Felician senior goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) made four saves to earn the eighth shutout of her career.

Felician defeated the Bears (2-2, 0-2) for the eighth consecutive season.
