Volleyball Enjoys Record-Setting Home Victory

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Senior setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./North Fort Myers) established a Felician College women's volleyball record for most assists in a four-set match with 55 as the Golden Falcons earned a 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 20-25, 25-11) non-conference victory over visiting The Lincoln University on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium. Felician (2-10) snapped overall and home losing streaks totaling nine matches each.

McKeever tied the overall program record for assists in a match, set by Nicole Degenhardt in a five-setter in 2007. Degenhardt also held the previous four-set mark of 50. The Golden Falcons broke team records for kills (63) and assists (59) in a four-set match as well. McKeever guided Felician to a season-best .220 attack percentage, and also posted three kills, eight digs, two aces, and two blocks.

Felician freshmen Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) and Carmen Shaw (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) each posted 20 kills, a career high for both players. Shaw had an attack percentage of .486, while Calero hit .295. Junior Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) paced the Golden Falcon defense with 22 digs.

Felician turned a 9-9 tie into a 21-12 lead en route to winning Set 1, then won seven of the final 10 Set 2 points to assume a 2-0 lead. But the Golden Falcons never led in the third set, allowing Lincoln to extend the match. Set 4 was even at 6-6 before Felician pulled away for a 14-7 lead, and eventually would score the final six points of the match, three coming on kills from Sally Taylor (San Diego, Calif./Horizon Christian Academy).

Taylor finished with 11 kills and 19 digs and freshman Amanda Coccia (Rahway, N.J./Roselle Catholic) added a season-high 15 digs for Felician. Sophomore Mariah Russell (St. Louis, Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) paced the Lions (1-4) with 10 kills and 12 digs.

With three service aces on the night, Felician senior defensive specialist Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz./Perry) tied the program's career record of 105. Shebel looks to break her deadlock with Megan Delamater when the Golden Falcons return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play by hosting defending league champion Post University on Wednesday.
