Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Sophomore Katina Kozlowski (Milton, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) scored twice, including the game-winning goal in overtime, and classmate Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) registered a goal and two assists as Felician College earned a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Felician (2-3, 2-1 CACC) was playing its 2015 home opener. Thursday's match was originally scheduled for Sept. 12, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
It appeared that Kozlowski had provided the Golden Falcons with the game-winner late in regulation. The scored had been tied, 1-1, since the 39th minute. As the game clock wound under four minutes, Stoll made a strong individual effort to free herself for a shot from the left wing. Goldey-Beacom junior goalkeeper Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, Texas/Coronado) made the save, but could not corral the rebound. Kozlowski pounced on the loose ball, attempted to dribble past Aguirre but was tripped up, righted herself, beat Aguirre to the ball and tapped it in with 3:45 to play.
The Lightning, however, equalized with just 0:15 left on a long chip shot by sophomore Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township).
Stoll and Kozlowski hooked up again during extra time. Stoll sent a low cross with strong pace diagonally across the 18-yard box and through traffic that may have crossed the goal line if left alone. Kozlowski was on the spot to make sure, however, and another tap-in ended the contest 5:35 into the first overtime period.
Lightning senior Becca Cordo (Roosevelt, N.J./Hightstown) opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Stoll was able to answer with 6:37 left in the first half, set up on a quick short pass from Stephanie Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton). Felician had an apparent goal disallowed in each half – on a foul just before the ball was struck in the 26th minute and a ruling that a ball was hand-balled into the net in the 59th -- but also came up empty on a season-high 13 corner kick attempts.
Felician out-shot the Lightning, 19-9, with Stoll and Marissa Nieves (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) snapping off five shots apiece. Aguirre was credited with 11 saves for GBC (1-5, 1-3). Golden Falcon senior keeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) earned the victory with five stops.
