SUFFERN, N.Y. – The Felician College men's golf team turned in the third-best single-round total in program history on Monday, but could not climb out of eighth place in the nine-team Charger Challenge, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College on Sunday and Monday at Spook Rock Golf Course.
Senior Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) led the Felician contingent, placing 15th out of 52 individual entries. After carding a 79 on the 6,806-yard, par-72 course on Sunday, Geesey came back with a 75 on Monday for a ten-over-par 36-hole total of 154.
All five players in the Golden Falcon line-up improved by at least three strokes on Day 2. Felician sat in eighth place after Sunday's round with a 334. Led by a 74 from junior Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia), the Golden Falcons improved to 313 on Monday, but could not make a push in the standings. Their 647 was 15 shots back of seventh-place Goldey-Beacom College.
Rasmus tied for 18th place with his 82-74-156.
Felician sophomore Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) finished 40th, posting an 87 on Sunday and an 81 on Monday for 168. Rounding out the line-up were freshman Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) (T-41st, 86-83-169) and sophomore Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) (T-45th, 89-84-173).
St. Thomas Aquinas College won the team portion of the event. Their 296-297-593 was eight shots better than runner-up Concordia (N.Y.) College. STAC freshman Michael Frizalone (74-68-142) was the medalist.
Seven of the nine teams entered in the tournament were Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members.
