Box Score BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Despite a season-high six kills from sophomore outside hitter Lanyse Castro (Elizabeth, N.J.), Felician College suffered a 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-21) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball loss to host Bloomfield College on Tuesday night at the BC Gymnasium.
Bloomfield (10-1, 4-0 CACC) has won seven consecutive matches, and is in first place in the CACC North Division.
Felician (2-13, 0-4) got off to a slow start, falling behind, 4-0 and 7-2 in the opening set. With Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, Puerto Rico) serving, the Bears extended an 11-6 lead to 17-6. Ahead 18-10, Bloomfield then won seven of the set's final eight points.
Set 2 was tied, 8-8, before Bloomfield pulled away for a 15-9 advantage. The Golden Falcons never came closer than a five-point deficit for the rest of the set.
Felician made a bid to extend the match by recovering from an 11-6 third-set deficit to take an 18-16 lead. The set was even, 20-20, but a kill by Bear senior Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and consecutive service aces from Freytes put the hosts in position for the sweep. After a Felician side-out made it 23-21, kills by Rivera and Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) ended the match.
Castro hit .333 on the night and teammate Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) also had six kills. Junior Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J.) topped the visitors in digs with eight.
Bloomfield amassed 10 aces and hit .316 as a team. Freytes finished with 19 assists and six aces, and Bermudez hit .433 while leading all players with 14 kills.
