Box Score 2 MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Felician College women's volleyball team concluded its two-day stay at the season-opening Marauder Clash, hosted by Millersville, with two losses on Saturday at Pucillo Gymnasium. Felician dropped a tight four-setter (17-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-23) to Virginia Union University in its morning contest, before returning in the early afternoon and falling to Ohio Valley University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17).
The Golden Falcons return home from Millersville with a record of 1-3. They travel to the University of Hawaii-Hilo for the Hawaii Challenge next weekend.
Felician's morning match turned on the result of the long second set. Missing several opportunities to close out VUU and assume a two sets to none lead, the Golden Falcons instead allowed the Panthers to knot the match. Virginia Union went on to pull out close wins in Sets 3 and 4 to take the match.
Freshman Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) paced the Felician offense with 15 kills and six service aces, while also picking up nine digs. Classmate Carmen Shaw (Gardnerville, Nev.) hit .414 with 14 kills and three blocks.
Junior libero Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J.) turned in 24 digs to pace the Felician defense, and added three kills. Senior defensive specialist Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.) had 10 digs, and senior setter Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.) accumulated five kills, 35 assists and nine digs.
Felician was held to an .062 team attack percentage in falling to Ohio Valley. The Golden Falcons committed 10 net violations and five ball-handling errors while allowing seven aces.
Calero produced another solid two-way effort with seven kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Soriano was credited with two kills, seven digs and two aces.
