Box Score LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Sophomore Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J.) had a goal and an assist and freshman Jenna Fischetto (Wallington, N.J.) scored her first collegiate goal to lead the Felician University women's soccer team to a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Chestnut Hill College on Saturday evening at Victory Field #1.
Felician is unbeaten in its last four matches, and is 5-1-2 since Sept. 28.
The victory, along with other CACC results on Saturday, put Felician (6-7-2, 4-5-2 CACC) in control of its own conference playoff fate. The Golden Falcons are one point behind Dominican (N.Y.) College for the eighth and final berth in the 2016 CACC Tournament, and play Dominican in their final regular season match on Oct. 26 in Orangeburg, N.Y.
Felician came out strong on Saturday, getting off eight shots and earning three corner kicks in the first 21 minutes of play. Its pressure paid off shortly thereafter. A Chestnut Hill attempt to clear yet another Golden Falcon corner opportunity got caught in the wind. An opportunistic Lederle intercepted the ball and scored on a long strike with 22:36 gone by.
Felician out-shot the Griffins, 14-2, in the opening period but settled for the 1-0 halftime edge.
In the 68th minute, a cross by Lederle near the edge of the 18-yard box set up Fischetto for an open shot. The freshman buried it into the bottom left corner of the net to give the visitors some breathing room.
The Griffins (4-10-2, 2-8-1) came up empty on six shots in the final 23 minutes, with Felician senior goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J.) stopping three of them. Ademi finished with four saves for her fourth shutout of the season and the seventh of her career.
The Golden Falcons ended the night with a 25-8 shot advantage. Junior Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J.) took 12 shots, two shy of the Felician record. Keeper Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) kept Chestnut Hill competitive by making 11 saves, including one on a 74th minute Felician penalty kick.
