Felician Women's Soccer Earns Playoff Berth With 4-1 Victory

Box Score

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Felician University women's soccer team earned a berth in the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with its 4-1 CACC victory over host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Wednesday afternoon on the Dominican campus. The match marked the end of the regular season for both schools.

Felician is unbeaten in its last five matches, and is 6-1-2 since Sept. 28.

The Golden Falcons (7-7-2, 5-5-2 CACC) will be the No. 8 seed in next week's conference playoffs. They will play their first-round game on Monday, October 31, at 2 p.m., and will travel to either Caldwell University or Georgian Court University.

Felician entered Wednesday one point behind Dominican for eighth place, meaning whichever side won Wednesday's contest would advance to the postseason. The Golden Falcons scored on their first shot of the match, when junior Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J.) chipped a ball over a defender into the 18-yard box. Classmate Katina Kozlowski (Milton, N.Y.) was on the receiving end, and finished four minutes, 51 seconds into the contest.

It took the hosts only 93 seconds to equalize. Dominican sophomore Taylor Calero (New City, N.Y.) put a low, diagonal shot into the net at the 6:24 mark. But Felician was able to put pressure on the Charger defense shortly thereafter, and cashed in for the goal-ahead goal in the 21st minute on sophomore Sami Lederle's (Brick, N.J.) fifth of the season. Senior Azra Buljko (Hackettstown, N.J.) was credited with an assist on the play.

The Golden Falcons carried the 2-1 edge into halftime, having out-shot Dominican, 12-3. They sustained their attack into period two, and put the game away with goals by Kozlowski in the 76th minute and Nowak in the 81st. Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J.) assisted on Kozlowski's score, her team-high fifth helper of 2016.

Felician finished the afternoon with statistical advantages of 21-7 in shots and 13-1 in corner kicks. Nowak led all players with eight shot attempts, while Calero got off six for the Chargers.

Felician senior Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J.) earned the victory in goal with five saves. Angelica Contreras (Baytown, Texas) stopped five shots for Dominican.

The Golden Falcons have reached the CACC playoffs for the third consecutive season, and for the eighth time in nine years under head coach Thomas Notte.
