Regionally-Ranked Post Tops Felician In Volleyball, 3-0

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Post University women's volleyball team secured its hold on first place in the North Division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-20) CACC victory over host Felician University on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

Post (24-3, 16-1 CACC) won its 14th consecutive match. The Eagles, the CACC champions in 2014 and 2015, are ranked No. 4 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region Committee poll.

Sophomore outside hitter Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) led the Golden Falcons (0-28, 0-17) with 11 kills and added nine digs. Felician received 20 assists and eight digs from freshman setter Charlotte Greek (Menifee, Calif./Murietta Mesa).

Felician fell behind, 6-1, to start the day. The hosts got back to within an 11-8 Set 1 deficit, only to see Post win the next six rallies, helped by two kills and a block from senior Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn./Plainfield). Ahead 20-11, the Eagles used three kills from senior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn/Plainfield) to score five of the final six points and claim the set.

Set 2 was tied six times and saw three early lead changes before the Eagles pulled away. With Felician ahead, 8-7, a pair of Hailey Griffin aces touched off a 5-0 spurt that gave Post the lead for good. The Golden Falcons did not score while serving for the rest of the set.

Post looked to close out the match with an early 9-2 Set 3 advantage. The visitors were still ahead, 16-9 and 22-13 before the Golden Falcons ran off six consecutive points. A Felician service error ended the streak. Golden Falcon sophomore Carmen Shaw (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) put down a kill to make it 23-20 and force a Post timeout, but an Eagle block and an ace by Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) ended the match.

Post senior middle hitter Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill South) hit .542 and led all players with 13 kills. Morgan Griffin finished with nine kills, 12 digs and four aces, and Hailey Griffin totaled eight kills and seven digs.

Shaw hit .500 with five kills for Felician, and Amanda Coccia (Rahway, N.J./Roselle Catholic) topped the Golden Falcon defense with 10 digs.

Felician has two matches left in its 2016 campaign. It travels to Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday before ending the season at home on Nov. 12 against Caldwell University.
