OCEAN VIEW, Del. – The Felician University men's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2015-16 season with a season-best result, placing fourth out of eight schools at the Bear Trap Dunes Invitational, hosted by Dowling College on Friday and Saturday at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course.
Felician junior Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) led the Felician contingent by tying for 11th place out of 50 competitors with a seven-over-par 151. In Day 2 of competition on Saturday, Rasmus shot an even-par 72 on the 6,834-yard course, the best individual round by any Golden Falcon player this season.
Felician shot 323 as a team on Friday and sat in a tie for fifth place. Senior Andrew Geesey (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) carded a 78 and Rasmus a 79 to top the Golden Falcon contingent on the first day of tournament play. Led by Rasmus' breakout round and Geesey's 79, Felician turned in a 318 on Saturday to best fifth-place Clarion University by one stroke. The Golden Falcons were 37 shots behind Bentley University, which finished third.
Geesey's 157 tied him for 21st place. Felician freshman Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) (82-86-168) tied for 35th place, while sophomores Chris Bekefi (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) (87-82-169) and Andrew Capone (Denville, N.J./Parsippany Hills) (84-85-169) finished in a tie for 39th.
St. Thomas Aquinas College won the tournament by 17 strokes over runner-up Wilmington (Del.) University. STAC ended up with scores of 289 and 292 for a tournament total of 581 (+5). The Spartans' Brendan Hunter was the medalist with a six-under-par score of 138 (67-71).
An NCAA golf team is allowed to enter five players into a tournament, and its top four scores each day count for its team total.
