Volleyball Drops Pair Of Three-Setters At Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – The Felician University women's volleyball team concluded its stay at the Skyhawk Invitational with a pair of 3-0 losses on Saturday at Merkert Gymnsium. Felician was defeated by host Stonehill College, 25-22 25-14 25-16, in its morning match before losing to Saint Michael's College, 25-22, 25-10, 25-17 on Saturday afternoon

Sophomore Amanda Coccia (Rahway, N.J.) moved into the libero position for Felician (0-5) and combined for 19 digs on the day.

Stonehill (3-3) amassed statistical advantages over the Golden Falcons of 43-18 in kills, 49-34 in digs and 8-1 in service aces. Skyhawk junior Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y.) hit .409 with a match-high 12 kills.

The first set turned on a run of six consecutive points for Stonehill which turned a four-point deficit into a 17-15 Skyhawk advantage. Still ahead, 21-20, the hosts captured three rallies in a row, with a DeLanty kill leading to set point. Felician saved two set points before DeLanty put down another kill to give her team the early 1-0 lead.

Stonehill jumped ahead, 15-8, on its way to winning Set 2. Leading 13-12 in Set 3, the hosts claimed 12 of the match's final 16 points.

Sophomore outside Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) led Felician with seven kills and 11 digs. The Golden Falcons received six kills and nine digs from freshman Lauren Mack (Valparaiso, Ind.). Allyson Hughes (Modesto, Calif.) turned in 10 kills for Stonehill.

Saint Michael's (2-1) hit .284 in the teams' afternoon match and held Felician to a .000 attack percentage. The Purple Knights' defense also owned a 59-31 edge in digs, led by 23 from senior Natalie Moore (Burnt Hills, N.Y.)

After coming up on the short end of a first set that featured 13 ties and seven lead changes, the Golden Falcons never led in Set 2. SMC turned a 6-6 Set 3 tie into an 14-7 advantage and never looked back.

Sophomore Hannah Skendziel (Tampa, Fla.) topped Felician with six kills and Calero had five kills and three aces. Coccia led the Golden Falcons with 12 digs.

McKenzie McNamara (Pembroke, Mass.), who hit .615, and Megan Priester (Dover, N.H.), who hit .412, each put down nine kills for SMC.
