Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – Felician University's attempt to battle back from an early two-goal deficit fell just short in its 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer loss to host Caldwell University on Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The match was a make-up from when the teams were rained out before completion on Sept. 14.
Senior midfielder Azra Buljko (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) picked up a goal and an assist for Felician (1-5, 0-3 CACC).
Sophomore Carlyn Salus (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) staked Caldwell (3-3-1, 3-1) to the quick lead, taking in a pass from Jessica LaConde (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and scoring seven minutes, two seconds, into the contest. The duo teamed up again at the 12:26 mark, with LaConde finding an open Salus in front of the net and the latter coming up with her second goal of the game.
The Golden Falcons answered in the 16th minute. A long throw-in by senior defender Carly Brantner (Shrewsbury, N.J.) reached the head of the 5-foot-10 Buljko to slice the visitors' deficit in half. The Cougars carried the 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Caldwell dealt a blow to the Golden Falcons' chances by coming up with a goal just 1:25 into the second period, using Delaney Boyer's (Freehold, N.J.) first marker of the season. But Felician senior goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J.) saved a penalty kick in the 57th minute, and her team drew closer when Buljko assisted on Katina Kozlowski's (Milton, N.Y.) 66th minute tally.
The Kozlowski goal ended up being Felician's only shot attempt of the second half, however. The Cougars successfully ran off the remaining time, finishing the day with a 15-6 shots advantage. Caldwell keeper Kylie Whalen (Hazlet, N.J.) earned the victory with two saves, while Ademi stopped four shots for the Golden Falcons.
