Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – For its third consecutive match, the Felician Unversity women's soccer team scored in the first six minutes of play. For its second start in a row, the goal did not stand up.
Post University equalized with two minutes left in the opening period and added two second-half scores to earn a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the visiting Golden Falcons on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
The result, along with other conference scores, secured a berth in the upcoming CACC playoffs for Post (5-10, 5-5 CACC), and made the path longer, yet more clear, for Felician. The top eight teams at season's end qualify for the postseason. The Golden Falcons (4-9-1, 3-7) and Chestnut Hill College (3-11, 3-8) are tied for eighth place, and the teams meet Saturday evening in Lyndhurst.
On Wednesday, senior midfielder Katina Kozlowski (Milton, N.Y.) picked up her first goal of the season for Felician with five minutes, 50 seconds gone by. Junior Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J.) was credited with an assist on the play. It was the first shot of the game for either team.
The Eagles racked up seven shots and six corner kicks in the half. But just when it looked like the Golden Falcons would escape with the one-goal lead into intermission, Post lined up for a free kick. Feena Maarse's (Hilversum, Netherlands) boot sailed into a crowd of players, and the hosts were able to avoid an offside violation long enough for Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) to poke it over the goal line. Exactly two minutes remained in the half.
Post swarmed the Felician goal to take the lead for good in the 55th minute. A shot by Eagle junior Ariana Hoxha (Watertown, Conn.) hit the crossbar. Teammate Sabrina Adamo (Hicksville, N.Y.) was the first player to the ball and had a shot saved by Golden Falcon freshman goalkeeper Jamie Kazenmayer (Forked River, N.J.). But before Kazenmayer could recover, Fitore Kllobochista (Watertown, Conn.) sent the rebound into the net.
Post took full control when Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) finished with 13:27 remaining.
The Eagles amassed edges of 19-5 in shots and 11-2 in corner kicks. Post freshman goalkeeper Imelda Lazaro (Norwalk, Conn.) earned the victory with two saves. Kazeymayer stopped six shots for Felician.
Felician will honor its five seniors on Senior Night prior to its 5:30 kickoff with Chestnut Hill on Saturday.
