Greek Records 1,000th Assist In Golden Falcon Volleyball Loss

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University sophomore setter Charlotte Greek (Menifee, Calif./Murietta Mesa) recorded 21 assists, including the 1,000th of her collegiate career, in the Golden Falcons' 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-12) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball loss to visiting Georgian Court University on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Sophomore middle blocker Amy Bruno (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) hit .579 with a match-high 13 kills and three blocks for Georgian Court (10-16, 9-5 CACC). Lion junior outside hitter Peggy Rosario (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/Academia Santo Tomas) added 11 kills and three aces. Junior outside hitter Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) led Felician with 11 kills.

Greek entered the night with 990 assists, and reached 1,000 at the end of a back-and-forth first set. The stanza featured 13 ties and six lead changes, and was not decided until a Felician block attempt on a Rosario attack landed barely out of bounds.

Felician led, 9-3, in the early-going, but the Lions came back to take a 12-11 lead on an Ashley Pierson (Rogersville, Mo./Rogersville) ace. Pierson served an error on her next try, and neither team led by more than two the rest of the way. Trailing 23-22, GCU earned the final three rallies on a Bruno kill, an Golden Falcon attack error, and Rosario's kill.

Felician recovered from early deficits of 5-1 and 9-5 in Set 2 to even things at 15-15. But the hosts only won one more point for the balance of the set. Similarly, the visitors got out to a 7-1 Set 3 advantage. GCU was still ahead by that margin, 18-12, when Aubrey Binkley (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) put together a string of five consecutive service aces. Kills by Rosario and Bruno then ended the match.

Georgian Court came up with 13 aces for the night and held Felician to two. Binkley finished with six kills, eight digs and seven aces, and freshman libero Paula Cespedes (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Fountain Crystal) led all players with 17 digs.

Sophomore libero Lauren Mack (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) topped the Golden Falcons (2-18, 1-13) with 14 digs. Classmate Jazlyn Pipkins (Paris, Texas/Paris) put down six blocks.

Felician hosts a tri-match on Saturday, facing Dominican (N.Y.) College in CACC action before a non-league affair with The Lincoln (Pa.) University. The Golden Falcons will sponsor a "Dig Pink" Day and raise funds for the Side-Out Foundation to fight breast cancer.
