Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Post University women's volleyball team maintained its share of first place in the North Division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) CACC victory over host Felician University on Friday night at Job Gymnasium.
Post (9-9, 7-1 CACC) was guided to a .323 team attack percentage by setter Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern). The junior produced match highs of 29 assists and 13 digs while adding three kills and two service aces.
Junior outside hitter Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) totaled nine kills and eight digs to pace Felician (2-11, 1-7).
The Eagles never trailed in the opening set, scoring the night's first three points and racing out to a 9-3 lead. An ace by Root and an Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego) kill put the visitors in front, 16-7, and led to a Felician timeout. The Golden Falcons, however, never came closer than a seven-point deficit for the balance of the set.
Set 2 began in see-saw fashion. Felician was ahead, 3-0, and 5-3, but the Eagles flipped the script for an 11-7 edge. The next four rallies went the Golden Falcons' way, with a Calero kill tying things at 11-11.
Post then began to take control. A 4-0 Eagle run gave the visitors the lead for good. With Post clinging to a 16-14 edge, a Felician service error touched off a string of six consecutive points for the Eagles, including two aces by Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy). The Golden Falcons managed two more side-outs before Post closed out the set.
Similarly, Post pulled away in the middle stages of the third set, stretching a 10-9 lead to 14-9 and eventually 18-11. Felician came as close as 21-16 before Root set Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) for three consecutive kills. A Calero kill saved one match point for the Golden Falcons, but an ensuing service error ended the match 66 minutes after the first service.
Eagle junior Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano) hit .379 and led all players with 13 kills. Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem North) finished with nine kills and Seger had eight kills and eight digs for the Eagles.
Felician freshman Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) put down five kills and two blocks. Classmate Kate Schneider (Cincinnati. Ohio/Colerain) turned in four kills and two blocks for the hosts.
Felician faces another first-place team, the CACC South leader Jefferson Rams (formerly Philadelphia University) on Saturday at noon in Philadelphia.
