Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Felician University women's soccer team played a scoreless first half with nationally-ranked Barry University before succumbing to the host Buccaneers, 3-0, on Friday evening at Buccaneer Field. The match marked the 2017 season opener for both schools.
Barry is ranked No. 16 in the national NCAA Division II preseason coaches' poll.
Barry out-shot the Golden Falcons, 7-0, in the opening period, but the Felician defense, backed by two saves from freshman goalkeeper Jamie Kazenmayer (Forked River, N.J.), kept the hosts off the scoreboard. The Buccaneers were able to keep up the offensive pressure to begin the second half, and it paid off when Sofia de la Puente (Hialeah, Fla.) got free at the far post and knocked home a cross from a teammate just fewer than seven minutes into the period.
Felician's offensive chances were seldom, as the Golden Falcons were limited to one shot attempt on the day. Barry secured the victory with unassisted goals by Amanda Traynor (Glasgow, Scotland) in the 62nd minute and Ingrid Lian (Oslo, Norway) in the 79th.
Kazenmayer totaled nine saves in 79 minutes in her collegiate debut.
Felician concludes its season-opening south Florida swing with a 10 a.m. kickoff against Nova Southeastern University on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale.
