Volleyball Drops Three-Setter At Millersville

Box Score

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Felician University sophomore opposite hitter Kaleysa Vodrazka (Bayonne, N.J.) matched a career high with six kills, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by host Millersville University, 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-11), in non-conference women's volleyball action on Saturday morning at Pucillo Gymnasium.

The loss completed Felician's stay in the two-day, four-team Marauder Clash. Both opponents the Golden Falcons faced in the tournament were undefeated.

Millersville sophomore setter Katie Laughman (New Oxford, Pa.) recorded 33 assists and eight digs while guiding her team's offense to a .337 attack percentage. Marauder freshman outside hitter Lindsey Blevins (Red Lion, Pa.) hit .462 with a match-high 13 kills.

The day's opening set featured seven ties and five lead-changes, all before the teams had reached 10 points. Ahead, 10-8, Millersville created some breathing room by capturing eight consecutive rallies, including three kills each from Erin Harman (Hanover, Pa.) and Haley Butler (West Chester, Pa.), before securing the set.

The hosts never trailed in Set 2, jumping out to a 7-1 edge. The Golden Falcons trailed, 9-5, before surrendering five points in a row to create a deficit they were unable to overcome.

The third set started strangely, as Felician, helped by a kill and two blocks from freshman Kate Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio), led, 5-0. But Millersville rebounded with the next nine points, including three kills and a block from Blevins, to take the lead for good. Another run of points by the Marauders, capped by a kill and an ace from Courtney Turocy (Bethlehem, Pa.) made the score 20-7, and in short order, Millersville (7-0) finished out its victory.

Harman totaled seven kills and 11 digs for Millersville. Felician (0-3) received 11 digs from junior Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.). Schneider topped all players with three blocks.

Later on Saturday, unbeaten Millersville and West Chester University met to conclude the Marauder Clash, with the Golden Rams (8-0) earning a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15) victory.

Felician begins 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play when it travels to Caldwell University for a 7 p.m. first service on Wednesday.
