Kazenmayer, Golden Falcons Stop Dominican, 2-0

Box Score

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Kazenmayer (Forked River, N.J.) matched a career high with 14 saves and senior midfielder Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J.) scored in the second minute to lead Felician University to a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday afternoon on the Dominican campus.

Felician (2-7, 2-5 CACC) snapped a nine-game road losing streak dating back to last season. Kazenmayer earned her second shutout of the season and the sixth of her career.

The Golden Falcons cashed in on the first scoring opportunity for either team. A throw-in by junior Katie Paz (Bethpage, N.Y.) in Felician's offensive third was deflected back out to Paz, who had stepped back onto the field. She served a ball deep into the 18-yard box that Lederle touched into the goal. Only minute, 53 seconds, had elapsed in the contest.

From there, Kazenmayer and the Felician back line took over. Kazenmayer made four first-half saves as the visitors carred the 1-0 edge into halftime. The Golden Falcon defense then successfully defended a barrage of five Charger corner kicks in the first 11 minutes of period two.

As Kazenmayer continued to deny the Dominican offense, Felician was denied an insurance goal when junior Danielle Jenkin (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) saw a shot bound off the crossbar in each half. Finally, in the 71st minute, Jenkin connected with freshman Valerie Adamo (Hicksville, N.Y.) mid-box, who finished for the 2-0 lead.

The Chargers were credited with 26 shots (16 after halftime) to just seven for Felician (three). Dominican senior Taylor Calero (New City, N.Y.) got off eight shots, putting seven on frame. Senior keeper Angelica Contreras (Baytown, Texas) stopped four shots for Dominican (1-9-1, 1-5-1).

Jenkin led Felician with three shots.

The Golden Falcons host Georgian Court University, the CACC's first-place team, on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Rutherford.
