Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's volleyball team played sloppily on offense following its first-set victory on Saturday afternoon, and eventually ceded its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match, 3-1, (20-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-17) to visiting Wilmington (Del.) University at Job Gymnasium.
Felician (5-13, 4-7 CACC) committed a season-high 34 attack errors. The Golden Falcons hit .029 for the match, including at a negative rate for the three sets they lost. Wilmington, the CACC's leader in blocks per set, out-blocked the Golden Falcons, 12-3.
Freshman setter Sierra Gallagher (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kamehemeha) matched season highs of 27 assists and 17 digs for Felician. Classmate Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Colegio de La Salle), making her first start at the libero position, registered season bests of 22 digs and five assists. Sophomore outside hitter Mandy Behiels (Edmonton, Alberta/Jasper Place) paced the Wildcats (14-9, 8-3) with 18 kills and 14 digs.
Felician jumped out on top 10-2 in the first set, a run which included two kills each from Kaleysa Vodrazka (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) and Baylei Furman (Kaheohe, Hawaii/Moanalua). Mid-set, the hosts were still ahead by that same margin, 17-9. The Golden Falcons led by as many as nine points before settling for the 25-20 victory.
The Wildcats methodically pulled away in Set 2, as Felician failed to consistently obtain immediate side-outs. Wilmington assumed its largest advantage at 17-9, and claimed the set by the same eight-point bulge to pull even.
Set 3 turned on a 6-0 Wilmington run which flipped an 11-9 deficit for the visitors into a 15-11 edge. After the teams traded points for two rotations, the Wildcats won another four consecutive rallies for a 21-14 spread, and reached 25 not long thereafter.
The Wildcats thwarted any thought of a Felician comeback by moving out ahead, 18-9, in the fourth set. The Golden Falcons came as close as 21-16, but gave Wilmington three of its last four points on attack error. Bailey Andrews (Owings Mills, Md./Roland Park) and Angel Oliver (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) shared a block to end the match one hour, 44 minutes after the first serve.
Andrews totaled 10 kills and seven digs and Jill Braunsburg (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) amassed nine kills, 18 assists, 15 digs and three blocks for Wilmington. Junior Raamiah Edwards (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) paced Felician with season highs of seven kills and seven digs.
Felician makes a short trip to Essex County to face Caldwell University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
