Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician University women's soccer team erased an early two-goal deficit and played to a 2-2 draw with visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
For the second consecutive match, Felician junior goalkeeper Jamie Kazenmayer (Mooresville, N.C./Lacey Township [N.J.]) matched a career high with 14 saves.
The Golden Falcons (3-6-1, 1-5-1 CACC) withstood an early onslaught spearheaded by Dominican forward Megan Geary (Campbell Hall, N.Y./Washingtonville). The sophomore scored twice in the game's first 11 ½ minutes, then hit the crossbar with a shot moments after her second goal.
The hosts turned the tide with a determined sequence in the 23rd minute. A Paloma Garcia (Union City, N.J./Union City) shot saved, but the rebound caromed left to Danielle Jenkin (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), who sent another offering across the 18-yard box. The ball stayed in-bounds, and on the other side of the box, Felician senior Joanne Arvanitakis (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) was the first player to the ball and deposited it into the net to cut the Felician deficit in half.
Kazenmayer made nine first-half stops to keep the game at 2-1 into halftime. With 8:05 gone by in the second half, Golden Falcon sophomore defender Alexa Fischetto (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) knotted the score on a free kick from a difficult left angle. It was her first career goal.
Just a few minutes later, Kazemayer made a one-handed save of a Charger direct kick from the top of the box. It turned out to be the best opportunity for either side the rest of the night. Dominican led in shots for the game 27-14, but just 11-8 after halftime.
Felician is in northeast Philadelphia on Saturday for a noon kickoff against Holy Family University.
