Spikers Hold Off Bloomfield For Seventh Win In Row

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Junior middle blocker Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii) hit .560 with 14 kills and four blocks to help lead Felician University to a 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 24-26, 25-17) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Bloomfield College on Wednesday night at Bloomfield College Gymnasium. Felician (10-12, 8-1 CACC) extended its school-record win streak to seven matches.

The match pitted the top two teams in the CACC North Division, with the result solidifying Felician's hold on first place. The Golden Falcons also defeated Bloomfield (8-6, 5-3) twice in the same season for the first time ever.

Freshman setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) totaled 41 assists and 16 digs while guiding Felician to a .215 attack percentage. Her favorite target was sophomore outside hitter Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.), who recorded 16 kills and 10 digs. Asbery put down her 14 kills without an error, and senior outside Raamiah Edwards (Bloomfield, N.J.) added eight kills and 20 digs.

Felician converted an early 7-4 Set 1 deficit into a 17-9 lead and was able to close out the set without much further challenge. Bloomfield came back from down, 11-5, in Set 2 for a 13-12 lead, but a 4-0 spurt put the Golden Falcons ahead to stay. The Bears closed to within 17-16 before Asbury had two kills during another 4-0 spurt that helped the visitors pull away for a 2-0 lead.

The Bears extended the match by saving three match points and scoring the final five points of Set 3. Like in the third, Felician went out on top 16-10 in Set 4. But this time the visitors extended to an 18-10 edge, and only allowed Bloomfield to creep as close as 20-15 before closing out the victory.

Sophomore libero Sierra Gallagher (Honolulu, Hawaii) backed the Felician defense with 29 digs and added four assists. On the front line, senior middle Jazlyn Pipkins (Paris, Texas) came with seven blocks and five kills. Felician had 90 digs, five short of the school four-set record.

Senior outside Danielle Quintanar (El Paso, Texas) accumulated 12 kills and 20 digs for Bloomfield.

Felician travels to Philadelphia on Saturday to face the University of the Sciences at noon.
