Returns Of Pipkins, Stegmuller Spark Volleyball To Five-Set Win

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Two players returning from injuries helped spark Felician University to a come-from-behind 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-11, 15-8) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Redshirt senior middle blocker Jazlyn Pipkins (Paris, Texas/Paris) made her season debut for Felician (6-12, 4-1 CACC). She played in the final four sets and recorded seven kills and eight blocks. Golden Falcon freshman outside hitter Sophia Stegmuller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) participated in a full match for the first time this year and turned in 11 kills and 10 digs.

Felician improved upon its best CACC start in program history. The Golden Falcons are in sole possession of first place in the CACC North Division for what is believed to be the first time ever.

Senior outside Raamiah Edwards (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) paced Felician with 11 kills and 18 digs. Freshman middle blocker Tanializ Rivera (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Academia Presbiteriana en Villa Carolina) led all players with 14 kills and put up nine digs for Concordia (2-3, 2-3).

Felician rebounded from an early 7-0 Set 1 deficit to move ahead, 22-19, only to see the Clippers score six of the final seven points. The Golden Falcons captured Set 2 but started slowly again in the third set and could not recover.

The hosts came all the way back, however, and did so in one-sided fashion. Back-to-back service aces by Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Colegio de La Salle) put Felician ahead, 16-5, on its way to a quick Set 4 win. Junior middle Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) put down five kills in the deciding set as the Golden Falcons hit .409 to secure the victory. Felician improved to 2-3 in five-set matches this season.

Sophomore libero Sierra Gallagher (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kamehameha) turned in season highs of 34 digs and five aces for Felician. Golden Falcon freshman setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M./St. Michael's) accumulated 37 assists and 13 digs.

Felician faces its first opponent of 2019 from the CACC South Division on Saturday when it travels to Goldey-Beacom College for a noon match.
