Box Score SALEM, W. Va. – The Felician University women's soccer team converted a pair of late corner-kick opportunities into goals to secure its 3-0 non-conference victory over host Salem (W. Va.) University on Saturday afternoon at Catalano Stadium. The match marked the final non-league game of the season for Felician (2-5).
Junior foward Paloma Garcia (Union City, N.J.) had a goal and an assist for the visitors. Felician junior defender Nikki Bisesi (Monroe, Conn.) and freshman forward Lindsey Riera (Belleville, N.J.) also scored. For back line veteran Bisesi, it was her first collegiate marker in her 35th game.
Felician started the game on the attack, generating three corner kicks in the opening two minutes. The Golden Falcons had the better of play for most of the period but needed until the 24th minute to break through on the scoreboard, using a Garcia shot from 15 yards out. Junior Vanessa Driskill (Old Bridge, N.J.) was credited with an assist on the play for her first career point.
The Golden Falcons ended the day with statistical edges of 18-2 in shots and 11-0 in corners, but as the second-half clock wound under 11 minutes, they clung to the one-goal edge. At long last, a Garcia offering from the left corner was chested past the goalkeeper by Bisesi with 10:33 to play to give Felician some breathing room.
Tiera provided the final margin with 3:51 left when she knocked home a Kiara Martinez (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) corner that landed in the middle of a crowd.
Junior keeper Chelsea Cordice made six saves for the Tigers (1-8). Freshman Elisa Zuta (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) led Felician with five shots. Felician junior keeper Brooke Garofalo (Ridgefield, N.J.) played a clean second half and stopped one shot.
After halting a four-game losing streak, Felician makes the short trip to Bloomfield College for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday at Foley Field.
