Women's Volleyball Wins Second Consecutive CACC Five-Setter

Box Score

WILMINGTON, Del. – Felician University claimed the day's final two sets to earn a 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 15-8) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph West Jones Center. Felician (7-12, 5-1 CACC) matched a program record by winning its fourth consecutive match.

The Golden Falcons extended the best league start their history and retained their early hold on first place in the CACC North Division. At 5-1, Felician is a half-game ahead of Bloomfield College, also a winner on Saturday.

Felician sophomore libero Sierra Gallagher (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kamehameha) amassed a career-high 36 digs, one short of the school record held by Pati Giemza. Golden Falcon senior outside hitter Raamiah Edwards (Bloomfield, N.J.) produced a team-high 17 kills and 17 digs, and junior middle blocker Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii) hit .520 with 13 kills.

After the teams split the first two sets, Felician fell behind, 10-1, to start Set 3, and never came closer than a seven-point deficit thereafter. The Golden Falcons then faced defeat by trailing late in Set 4, 21-17. But the visitors rallied to score the final eight points, including four on kills by Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.), to force a deciding set.

Felician carried the momentum, jumping in front, 9-2 and 10-3. After the Lightning saved three match points, a kill by Kali Vodrazka (Bayonne, N.J.) gave the victory to the Golden Falcons two hours, one minute, after the opening serve. The win marked the second time in four days that Felician rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn a league triumph.

GBC (4-9, 1-4) was paced by the tandem of junior outside Lindsey Przywara (Williamstown, N.J.) and sophomore opposite Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.). Przywara recorded 23 kills, 11 digs and three aces, while Boyce was good for 22 kills and nine digs. They were the top targets of sophomore setter Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, Nev.), who totaled 52 assists and 21 digs. Her Felician counterpart, freshman Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) set a season-high 49 assists and added 11 digs.

Sloan hit .333 and finished with 11 kills and six digs.

Felician is idle until Thursday when it finishes its first rotation of matches against the CACC North with a 7 p.m. contest at Nyack College.
