Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's volleyball team was defeated by host Holy Family University, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-15) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Friday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium. Holy Family (10-2, 5-0 CACC) has won its last seven matches.
Felician (4-11, 2-3) was chosen for first place in the CACC North Division in the league's 2021 preseason coaches' poll. The Tigers, who won the 2020-21 conference championship in March, were so recognized in the South Division.
For the second consecutive three-set match, Golden Falcon senior libero Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) totaled 26 digs. Junior Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.) topped the Felician offense with six kills and senior Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.) added five.
Senior setter Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa.) guided Holy Family to a .210 team attack percentage, handing out 34 assists and adding three aces. Her favorite target was junior Alyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa.) who hit .464 with a match-high 17 kills.
HFU got off to a quick start. The hosts led the first set, 8-2, 13-4, and 20-9 and cruised to victory. The Tigers then claimed the first four points of Set 2. Felician never led, but remained within range and eventually tied the set at 20-20. But trailing, 22-21, the Golden Falcons got off an errant serve and a bad set before a Silks ace allowed the Tigers a two-set advantage.
Ahead, 7-6, early in Set 3, Holy Family captured seven of the next eight rallies to take control. The visitors never came closer than a five-point deficit the rest of the way.
Felician junior Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia) had four kills and two blocks and sophomore Natalie Kashian (Secaucus, N.J.) finished with eight digs.
Felician is next in action on Tuesday, October 5, with a 7 p.m. match against Nyack College on the campus of New Jersey City University.
