Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Wilmington (Del.) University used two long-range second-half goals to secure a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer victory over host Felician University on Saturday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Prior to the match and below threatening skies, Felician celebrated Senior Night. The Golden Falcons honored five seniors on the current team – Amy Aguilar-Almazo (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), Nikki Bisesi (Monroe, Conn./Masuk), Vanessa Driskill (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), Alexa Fischetto (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) and Paloma Garcia (Union City, N.J./Union City) – along with 2020 graduate Jenna Fischetto.
As the first half wore on, the rain and wind that showed itself during the Senior Night ceremony eased off. Felician sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Lambertino (Hammonton, N.J./Sterling) made four saves during the first half, and teammates Bisesi and Emma Weiss (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) each cleared balls off the goal line.
However, Wilmington (7-3-2, 4-1-1) seized momentum during the 41st minute, tallying when Jimena Garcia Risoto (Madrid, Spain/Gredos San Diego) cleaned up after a Samantha Emmi (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) longball led to an Alexis Johnson (Burlington, N.J./Burlington) shot which was deflected. The Wildcats took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Wilmington's Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) buried a ball into the upper right corner of the net from about 25 yards out during the 68th minute, only to be outdone by teammate Alicia Whyte (Bloomfield, Conn./Bloomfield) with 9:44 to play. Whyte sailed a chip shot under the crossbar from 30+ yards away.
Only then was Felician able to generate a serious offensive challenge. Aroa Herrero Nieto (Almeria, Spain/IES Las Marinas) hit the crossbar with an offering, and she and Katinka Ummels (Urmond, Netherlands/Graaf Huyn College) forced Wildcat keeper Emily Camp (Pittsgrove, N.J./Arthur P. Shalick) into action shortly thereafter. But the Golden Falcons (1-10, 0-6) could not find their way onto the scoreboard.
Wilmington held a 12-8 advantage in shots. Felician sophomore Carlie Koziol (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton) led all individuals with four.
Felician concludes a three-game homestand when it entertains Post University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
