Volleyball Comes Up Short During Tri-Match At GCU

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Felician University women's volleyball team was on the short end of a pair of 3-0 decisions during a tri-match hosted by Georgian Court University on Saturday at the GCU Wellness Center. Felician dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match to the host Lions, 25-22, 25-23, 27-25, in its morning match before falling short of American International College, 25-21, 25-17, 25-17.

Felician senior libero Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) combined for 43 digs on the day, registering 22 versus Georgian Court and 21 against AIC.

During its loss to Georgian Court, the Golden Falcons (7-14, 5-4 CACC) were limited to a .060 attack percentage, allowed eight service aces, and were outblocked, 12-6. Nevertheless, Felician remained in contention during each set until the closing points.

Set 1 was tied 22-22 before three consecutive attack errors by the visitors handed the set to the Lions. During Set 2 Felician battled back from a 21-16 deficit to pull within 23-22 but could not extend the set. And in the third, the Golden Falcons saved a match point before again losing the final three rallies, with an ace by GCU's Trilby Kite (York, Pa.) ending the match.

Senior outside hitter Kinsy Haschke (Mount Belvieu, Texas) led all players with 13 kills and topped the Lions (16-6, 7-3) with 16 digs. For Felician, junior outside Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.) totaled 10 kills and nine digs and junior setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) had three kills, 21 assists and 14 digs.

Directed by sophomore setter Naomi Eckert-Rivera (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) (40 assists, 13 digs), American International (15-6) hit .214 during its victory over Felician. Graduate outside Andrea Serra Rosa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) led the Yellow Jackets with a .355 attack percentage and 14 kills and added 11 digs.

Freshman Olivia Anderson (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) posted a team-high seven kills and six digs for Felician. Classmate Alexis Rigdon (Lake Worth, Fla.) had 21 assists.

Felician finished non-conference play for the season with a record of 2-10. AIC won the day with a 3-1 victory over GCU later on Saturday.

The Golden Falcons will host Post University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Rutherford.
